P-Square is made up of Peter and Paul Okoye and is a rhythm and blues group.
They are influenced by Usher, Bobby Brown, MC Hammer, R Kelly and Michael Jackson among others. Their Afrocentric music encompasses urban/R&B songs, hip-hop jams, dancehall, soul, etc
They hail from Ifite Dunu LGA in Anambra State but were born and brought up in Jos, Plateau State – Nigeria. They both attended Tempest Private School, Laranto, Jos; St. Murumba College, Jos, Plateau State; and are both graduates of Mass Communication and Business Administration respectively at the University of Abuja - Nigeria. In St. Murumba College, they formed a dancing group called the Smooth Criminals which existed for 5 years. They then formed an accapella group called MMPP together with two friends, Michael and Melvin. After the breakup, Peter and Paul formed P-Square.
After having their debut, Last Nite produced by Timbuk 2 Records (which got them to the Kora awards), they formed Square Records to handle their Get Squared album. The album dominated charts across Africa on the backs of hits like Bizzy body and Temptation.
Peter, their brother Tony and their cousin and friend Oshevire Ovuorho choreograph all the dances. Peyer also plays the acoustic & bass guitars and drums. Paul plays the keyboard and does the production and sequencing of their songs till date. They have their own label called Square records.
Hard-work and determination are the watch word that got them where they are today. They were discovered by Bayo Odusami (Howie T.) of Adrot Studios at the Gold and Tones "Grab da Mic" competition in Jos and ever since they have being under the management of Adrot Studios. Peter is the choreographer of all their dance routines. He also plays the acoustic guitar, bass guitar and drums while Paul plays the keyboard and does all their production and sequencing. Their kind of Music is Afocentric Hiphop and R&B spiced up with choreography.
They have become the biggest African music act and recently won 1 million dollars as the best African act at the Kora All-African Music Awards in 2010.
