Michael Owusu aka Sarkodie, is the inaugural winner of the new artiste of the year at the annual Museke Online Africa Music Awards.
Sarkodie Obidi had been an underground rapper in Ghana for close for more than a year before his mixtapes started gaining radio airplay. He was a constant feature on rap battles on Kasahare level, a radio show on Adom FM based in Tema, hosted by Dr. Duncan. He gained popularity as one of the fastest rappers in Africa.
His first single, Baby aka my wife, featuring Mugeez of R2Bees helped him successfully cross over into mainstream radio. Before that, he had underground hits like Altar, Push, Edey be featuring Paedae of R2Bees and Politics.
The music video for Borga was shot by one of Ghana's best directors, Gyo Gyimah of Phamous Philms. The song which features J-Town talks about Ghanaians who've travelled abroad and has become a cult classic. The music video for Lay Away featuring Sway is coming out soon.
His debut album, Makye, has been hailed as one of the best hiplife albums to date.
